About the Helmut Schmidt Program
The DAAD Helmut Schmidt Scholarship, funded by the German Federal Foreign Office, aims to train future leaders from developing countries in the fields of public policy, law, economics, and governance. Scholars are prepared to become change-makers and decision-makers in their home countries after completing master’s degrees in Germany.
Scholarship Benefits

Who Can Apply
Applicants must:
• Be graduates from developing or emerging countries in social sciences, political science, law, economics, or related fields
• Show leadership potential and commitment to democratic governance
• Have completed a bachelor’s degree (good grades required)
• Apply within 6 years of graduation
Application Process
Applicants select up to two eligible master’s programs under the Helmut Schmidt scheme and apply directly via the DAAD portal. Supporting documents include a motivation letter, CV, academic transcripts, and proof of work experience.
